Information

Location &
Nearby Attractions

Situated in a designated  'Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty',  'The Old Dairy' and ‘The Courtyard’ are a perfect base for visiting most of North and West Yorkshire as they are surrounded by the towns of Harrogate, Skipton, Ilkley, Pateley Bridge, Ripon, Thirsk and York. A short 15 minute drive will bring you onto the A65 which is the main artery to the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Timble may be tiny but is wonderfully situated for reaching all the surrounding towns, villages and cities. You will probably experience great difficulty in choosing where to go and what to do but we hope the brief selection below will give you a start!

Harrogate

This beautiful Victorian spa town is an ideal base for touring North Yorkshire. Packed with monuments, stately homes, gardens, restaurants, shops, Turkish Baths and many sites of historical interest. A Yorkshire visit wouldn't be complete without a visit to Betty's tea room!

Ideal for business clients who need to travel to the conference centre and exhibition halls.

Skipton

Yorkshire's 'Gateway To The Dales'. Skipton's main attraction is the street market together with the castle, excellent shopping, restaurants and traditional tea rooms.

Pateley Bridge & Nidderdale

The capital of Nidderdale, Pateley Bridge is a thriving Dale’s town with steep High Street, unique shops and quaint tea rooms. You can see more about Pateley Bridge and Nidderdale by clicking here.

Thirsk

Thirsk is the town of the TV Vet James Herriot and gives easy access to Heartbeat Country. Conveniently situated for travelling to the East Coast resorts of Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Bridlington.

Howarth

Take the steam train from Keighley to Howarth following the route made famous by the movie 'The Railway Children'. Howarth is world famous as the home of The Bronte Sisters. Go visit the Parsonage Museum and the beautiful town.

Bolton Abbey

The Bolton Abbey Estate boasts fantastic walks through the most breathtaking countryside. Stop and have some lunch or afternoon tea in The Brasserie or The Cavendish Pavillion.

Ilkley

Dwarfed and surrounded by the spectacular 'Ilkley Moor' Ilkley attracts visitors from afar. The Victorian architecture as well as the historical Roman remains makes Ilkley a place not to miss. For those who appreciate the finer things in life, afternoon tea in 'Betty's' is a real must!

Ripon

Ideal for travelling through on your way to the North York Moors. The City boasts a magnificent cathedral, market square, racecourse, museums, Georgian buildings and a 300 year old obelisk. It is also filled with fascinating shops and tea rooms.

York

Yorkshire's capital and most famous tourist 'must'. The City boasts many attractions in addition to York Minster, museums, theatres, restaurants and historic sites. Excellent selection of 'ghost walks' and the world famous 'Jorvic Museum'.

Salts Mill & Saltaire

This magnificent former mill and the village of Saltaire have now been transformed into a world famous visitor centre. The David Hockney museum houses the largest collection of his paintings.

It's lovely getting out and about in such a beautiful and interesting area but should you choose to stay more local you will find lots to occupy you. There are many walks and trails from your doorstep - no car needed! Perfect for gentle to the more challenging hikes. Great for cycling too - the whole area was fantastically shown off during the Tour De France a couple of years ago!

The Swinsty and Fewston reservoirs are just a 5 minute walk down Back Lane and are ideal for walking, picnics and fishing. Hopefully the above suggestions can tempt you a little!
